1. Registration:Registration fees Presenters: Pre-registration (post marked before Oct. 26, 2006): $20 Late registration (On-site/postmarked on or after Oct. 27, 2006): $30 Registration entitles the presenter to a free copy of abstracts and free entrance to the welcome party.
Payment: Please pre-pay by check
only, in US dollars. Make your check payable to LINGUA, and send it to the
following address postmarked by the pre-registration deadline. 2. Accommodations:We recommend the Park Inn, conveniently located within walking distance of the university, or the Wingate Inn, which provides shuttles service between the airport and to the university. You may make your reservations by contacting the hotel directly. The UTASCILT is a student-led conference
specifically designed to give graduate students a chance to present their
original research. This is a great opportunity to join students from
across America and around the world to present research on language.
DEADLINE IS
NOW PAST... if you submitted abstracts, you will be notified of acceptance
in early October. Papers for this conference are invited in all areas of linguistics, including the area of TESOL and the area of endangered languages. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. John Baugh, of Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Baugh is a professor of Psychology, and has his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania. His recent work includes research involving linguistic profiling and prejudice, which he will be speaking on during the conference. Reflecting Dr. Baugh’s work, we will be including a special session entitled Language, Identity and Human Rights, and encourage all students with research in these areas to submit. We also encourage and will be accepting submissions outside of this theme.
Students from any educational institution are encouraged to submit their
research and share insights they have discovered in the field. Presenters
can choose between oral and poster presentations. Oral presentations will
last 15 minutes with 5 minutes for discussion and questions. An allotment
of time will be set aside for poster presentations and discussion. This is
a great opportunity to develop professional skills! The three best
presentations will be awarded the Yumi Nakamura Memorial Prize in
Linguistics (up to $400.00 USD). Poster and oral presentations are
considered, accepted and judged as equal counterparts.
Abstracts should be sent to the attention of: UTASCILT in time to reach UTA by the
deadline. Electronic submission should be in MS Word or PDF format.
