Re: UTASCIL 10 and Inclement weather plans
Dear One and All,
After conferring with Dr. Silva concerning the impact of our current North Texas weather conditions on our student conference scheduled to commence tomorrow, the following decision has been made:
THE CONFERENCE IS STILL ON !!!
However, there is a great probability that we will need to be extremely flexible in our approach to the days. We have several people flying in or traveling on interstates that in the morning hours of today were or still are closed down. Here is our plan:
If the University is NOT closed tomorrow, we will proceed as planned making adjustments in the schedule for any non-UTA or traveling UTA presenters who may be delayed due to weather conditions. Everyone is urged to access the UTA webpage at http://www.uta.edu/ to keep abreast of the opening or closing of the campus for Thursday a.m.
If the University IS closed for Thursday, we will still hold conference on Friday. In such an event, all traveling presenters, including GIAL as well as Janet and Scott will be given first priority to present. Dr. Esling will also still be presenting on Friday as scheduled. We will then fill in the rest of the slots available with currently enrolled UTA students. So that all the papers will have an opportunity to be presented, another day later in the semester will be scheduled for those UTA students who will not have an opportunity to present on Friday.
The Yumi prize will still be awarded. We are counting on all those who have agreed to judge papers to be available and flexible in their participation.
For all of you venturing out on these slick Texas roads, I wish you safe travel. Here is hoping to see you tomorrow.
Coleen Anderson
