Student Awards
UT Arlington Department of Linguistics & TESOL students are regularly honored for their achievements. We'll tell you here about the honors we know of. (This page is organized by academic year.)
2008-2009
Department and College Awards
The following awards were presented at the spring 2009 annual awards ceremony of the Department of Linguistics & TESOL:
- Presley McFadden: Feigenbaum Award (presented to an outstanding TESOL student)
- Brittain Hard and Stacie Ross-Mirahmatov: Service Learning (presented to undergraduate linguistics minors who have distinguished themselves by combining their linguistics education with service to the community)
- Matt Benton and Lynnelle Rhinier: Honorable Mention, 08-09 Yumi Nakamura Prize in Linguistics (UTASCILT 16)
University Scholars
Dalal Almubayei, Yujeong Choi, Joshua Jensen, and Neal Liang were named UT Arlington University Scholars (nominated by our department) on the basis of academic excellence.
Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges
Joshua Jensen and Deborah King (Linguistics Ph.D. program) and Keith Huddleston (undergraduate linguistics minor) were named to Who's Who for the 2008-2009 academic year.
Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Inductees
Chris Aufdembrink and Reem Soliman (M.A. TESOL) were inducted into UT Arlington's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society in fall 2008.
2007-2008
University Scholars
Matthew Benton, Elizabeth Dockendorf, Robert Eaton, Deborah King, and Catharine Welch were honored as "University Scholars" at the President's Convocation for Academic Excellence (The University of Texas at Arlington) in the 2008 spring semester.
Department and College Awards
The following awards were presented at the spring 2008 annual awards ceremony of the Department of Linguistics & TESOL:
- Reem Soliman: Feigenbaum Award (presented to an outstanding TESOL student)
- Neal Liang: GTA/Lecturer of the Year (awarded by the Modern Languages Department)
- Brett Benham: Third Place Winner, 07-08 Yumi Nakamura Prize in Linguistics (won for poster presentation at UTASCILT 15)
2006-2007
Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Inductees
Courtney Gillett and Jane Pappenhagen were inducted into UT Arlington's chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society in 2007.
University Scholars
The following Linguistics students were honored as "University Scholars" at the President's Convocation for Academic Excellence (The University of Texas at Arlington) in the 2007 spring semester:

- Traci Patricia Weast
Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges
Cecile Padayodi from the Linguistics Ph.D. program was awarded a place among the 2006-2007 Who's Who recipients.
