Scholarships and Teaching
Assitantships in Linguistics
NOTE: The primary deadline to apply for a linguistics
scholarship for 2002-03 has passed. If you have missed the March 14 deadline
but would still like to apply for a scholarship, please contact the Linguistics
Department Chari and request an application form. There may still be funds
to help support your study.
The UTA
Program in Linguistics offers a limited number of scholarships and graduate
teaching assistantships (GTAships) each academic year.
Any student
who will have been unconditionally admitted to our program is eligible to apply
for and receive a Linguistics Scholarship. Scholarship amounts are generally $1000 per year, which
makes scholarship holders eligible to pay in-state tuition rates.
GTAship are
generally awarded to Doctoral students and advanced Masters Degree
students. GTAs are typically
assigned one section of English Composition for first-year undergraduates (ENGL
0301 or ENGL 1301); the sections taught by our GTAs are specifically for
non-native speakers of English.
GTAs also contribute an additional four (4) hours of work per week to
the program, either as faculty assistants or as tutors in the UTA Writing
Center. GTA awards include an
annual stipend of between $7000 and $9000, health benefits, and in-state
tuition rates.
