Giving Opportunities
Giving opportunities include the Yumi Nakamura Memorial Endowment, the Linguistics and TESOL Alumni Endowment (currently being established), and the Linguistics and TESOL Gift Fund.
- The Yumi Nakamura Memorial Endowment was established to honor the memory of Ms Yumi Nakamura. Yumi was enrolled in the graduate linguistics program at UT Arlington until she was tragically killed in a traffic accident in January 2000. Her family established the endowment in their daughter’s name as a way to honor her memory and to support academic excellent. Proceeds from the endowment fund the Yumi Nakamura Prize, which is awarded to the best student papers at the Annual UT Arlington Student Conference in Linguistics and TESOL.
- The Linguistics and TESOL Alumni Endowment, established by alumna Dr. Robin Lombard, is to be used in support of graduate student professional advancement and research initiatives. Dr. Lombard has partnered with her employer, the Microsoft Corporation, to establish this endowment. Once vested, the endowment will fund graduate student fieldwork. Gifts from other donors – especially graduates of UT Arlington’s Department of Linguistics and TESOL – are most welcome.
- The Linguistics and TESOL Gift Account is the department’s non-endowed, multi-purpose gift fund. Donations to this account are used primarily to support student scholarships, as well as other student-focused activities and events. Gifts to the department that are not otherwise designated to either of the endowment accounts (above) are placed into this account.
